Rice is the most effort (most skill gain) but the shortest grow time which makes it ideal for. Unless you restrict their diet under the Assign tab. So if you have any other food available in your colony, theyll mostly ignore the nutrient paste dispenser. Corn is the least effort (least skill gain) but takes the longest to grow and you can generally only maximize it on year-round growing maps. Do note, however, that nutrient paste isnt exactly gourmet food, and apart from the rare ascetic pawn, most will eat just about anything else before resorting to nutrient paste. Meanwhile, overyone else on a no-package policy at home wont be having any meal in their inventory - a good thing since they'll not ever eat without table, but a bad thing because they no longer have emergency meal and also waste a lot of time to get food from dispenser. Crops are situational, there is a best for a given scenario but it has nothing to do with nutrient paste. I can of course, disable survival meal from policy too, however, that'd mean manually figuring out who to go on caravan, then switch them to a separate food policy which covers package meal. What it leads to is that if i play a transhumanist base, with only nutrient paste + survival meal, the pawn will go to take the survival meal, which i want to keep in reserve for caravanning. the dispenser counts as wall so you can put the front in your dining room and the back in your freezer with the hoppers. I just wanted a secondary source of food production dammit. Pawns will dispense meals from the interaction spot, the front-center tile indicated by the circle during placement. Pawns currently dont go to dispenser to get nutrient paste for their inventory generally nutrient paste dispensers are a waste. The nutrient paste dispenser is an impassible object, acting like a wall for room and temperature mechanics. With this, you can create meals easily out of raw food. Tldr: pawns should get nutrient paste from dispenser for their inventory, not just for when they want to eat One technology that makes this a little bit easier is the Nutrient Paste Dispenser.
